Cal Smith Aviation Artist

New Member greetings & introductions
Hello,

As I was surfing through cyberspace looking for a place to reintroduce my fathers aviation art I found ehanger. Looks like I found the right home. My father, Cal Smith; was an aviation illustrator in the 40s,50s,and 60s. His untimely death at age 45 (in 1964) stunned the aviation publishing and model building world. Anyone out there remember his work?

It has been a long time since the public has been able to enjoy his illustrations. We have many of his original paintings in our house, and have been digitally restoring many others.

If you have any suggestions or marketing ideas please let me know. Would be wonderful for the public to be able to own and enjoy his incredible view from the cockpit once again. We have some posters for sale on ebay at http:// stores.ebay.com/VINTAGE-AIRSCAPES please take a look and come "smell the clouds" with us.

    Aloha, SLS

SLS, I'm keen to learn more of your father, his story and his aviation art, and I'm sure many of us here at eHangar.com are too. Please tell us more about yourself too and why you are doing this for your father's work at this time.

Wonderful work - I've seen some of it before in various places.

Good to have you aboard! Please stay in touch and do tell us all about your father and your relationship with him.

Sorry to hear about your father's death at age 45. I'm that exact age right now, so I can truly relate as to how very "early" in life that is!

Welcome SCS/SLS!

I look forward to your further postings.

I recognized one of your father's artworks straight away-

I thought that was one of the best images I had ever seen of any warbird to that point in my life.

   Good luck on your endeavors!

SLS:

I had a disaster on my computer and lost your email address!! I was contemplating sending you a couple of Air Trails magazines with covers by your dad, but I needed to check on which ones you might not have! Also, I'm making some full size "touch up" prints of scans of some covers. Drop me an email so that I can restore your address. Also, could you send the website address you set up about your father. I think you'll recognize me with the info that I'm JAB in Marietta.

We have had a family tragedy. So you all will not be hearing from me for a bit. My 22 year old son was killed in a car accident. Need time to regain my

bearings. Please keep your inquiries coming. I appreciate your interest and memories of my Father. Will get back to all who have posted comments as soon as I can. This is a super web sight. Looking forward to flying with you all again soon.
