Hello fellas!

I have finally launched a website. It is the result of an idea that I had several months ago. The initial premise is to assist aviation artists during the research phase of their painting projects, and it currently includes images and text for three of the six paintings that I have been involved in up to this time. The “Jack Fellows” page is still under construction. I plan on adding several more pages in the future to cover some paintings already completed and others that are still in the research phase. Of course this has been undertaken with the understanding that I do have a demanding full-time job, and 99.9% of my library is centered on WW2 aviation. Humble beginnings, but I hope you guys like it –

Nice idea Roger. Kind of creates some real meaningful legacy for the works as they exist through the ages (we hope).

Roger hi

Like the concept and a nice start to the site. I appreciate it is early days, but, unless I missed it, there is no way to contact you from the webiste.

I know we here all know how to get hold of you, but a contact page is probably a good idea, with perhaps some guidance as to what info you need in order to kick off your research. I’m sure you’ve got it covered, but just in case. 😎

Thanks for the encouragement, guys. 😀

I have decided to postpone opening up that Pandora’s Box until a little later, possibly this summer. I’ve been spending most of my spare time putting the website together and researching two other paintings that I have comissioned. I didn’t want to make the offer available out there on the internet and then have to tell someone with a genuine need that I couldn’t get to them for several months. Of course, I always try to make time for my friends here!

And then there is that book that I have been thinking about writing… 🙄

Looks super, Roger! As much as I love researching myself, and I do have to justify this ma$$ive collection of book$ somehow 😯 lol , the ‘team effort’ really aids the artist and saves a lot of time.

A technical note – the images of my work on your site appear to have jagged edges, “Most Dangerous Game” in particular. Does your site host constrain your image sizes, as in the image you get from my site is “squeezed” to fit your site host’s template? There’s also the possibility that my wife’s new computer (fr*&%$king VISTA!) is mucking things up.

Keep up the good work!

Thanks Neil and Wade! 😀

My intent is definitely to help aviation artists to be able to spend more time at the easel. That, and hopefully to be able to create a research package when called upon that provides the artist with more accurate information than they may have access to, and thus help to avoid errors that are hard to correct once the painting is under way.

It’s not your computer. Unfortunately, it seems as though when I download images to the folder that the hosting service provides, in support of the site, that everything gets autosized. The driving force seems to be the dimension of the longest side of the image. There may be a way to modify that, and once I get all the content complete, I’ll play around with it some more to see if I can resolve those issues. For now, hopefully, if someone becomes interested in the content on the site, they will find their way to the “links” page, and then be able to see far better images on the sites of the publishers and artists.

First, the bad news. I have decided not to renew the Go Daddy based version of “History’s Wingman”. It should die at the end of the year. As passionate as I am about the subject, it did not generate a single penny in revenue under the premise of offering “Research Assistance for Aviation Artists”, and the expense was considerable.

The good news. Facebook is free, and “History’s Wingman” will live on there. It has morphed into an “Online Aviation Art Magazine”. Many of the articles that I have posted on eHangar over the years will be reborn there, as well as many new ones which I will still post here on eHangar. I feel that I can help promote aviation art to a wider audience on facebook. eHangar is still the place to interact with the hardcore enthusiasts associated with the genre. They are two separate approaches to the same end. I will still be associated with, and participate on eHangar as before.

I hope to advance artists, collectors, galleries, publishers and associations with equal measure. Most everyone here knows that is what I’m all about. I would encourage anyone who may have further ideas on how to achieve that to pm me here on eHangar or e-mail me. Hopefully more interest can be generated for the genre that we all support.

Rock on Rog! Sounds like you’re “fighting smarter, not harder”. Benefit of experience and our (somewhat) older age no doubt.
