Atomic bombing of Hiroshima, 06 August 1945, 73 years ago today.
The Boeing B-29 Superfortress Enola Gay, piloted by Colonel Paul Tibbetts, took off from Tinian Airfield on the world's first atomic bombing mission in history, headed for the Japanese city of Hiroshima.
At 08:15 (Hiroshima time), Enola Gay dropped the Little Boy bomb on the unsuspecting city. The detonation created a blast equivalent to 16 kilotons of TNT.

Some 70,000–80,000 people, 30% of the city's population, were killed by the blast and resultant firestorm, and another 70,000 injured. Out of those killed, 20,000 were soldiers.'/>
