2 new Anthony Saunders prints out. "Breakout" has Bismarck & Me-109's, and "Eismeer Patrol" has Tirpitz & Fw-190's.
Images are up on the web.

And they are NICE in my opinion.
Love the sense of speed in the Bismark print and the lighting is top notch in the Tirpitz....
I think I will pick one or two up eventually. Can't right now, but I could see some great signature projects being based around any of these. |

They are both very good.
Breakout clearly shares a lot with Taylor's "Channel Dash". The lighting is quite nice. In general, I'd say he does a great job with the lighting in his paintings.
I'm curious about the lead 109 in Breakout. How does the nose look to you? I can't quite decide whether it's OK or a little off. Any 109 experts out there care to offer an opinion?

I think both are very good.
"Breakout" does compare with RT1's "Channel Dash"; similar lighting and color. Very well done. Saunders has been really upping his work I think. As for the 190E, the nose did catch me at first. Emil's did have nose cones covering the front to streamline the prop, but at first the vents above looked a bit large to me. Overall comparing to other art seems all right.
"Eismeer Patrol" to me is like a "reverse" of RT's Knight's Move. The Tirpitz is sailing away from the viewer and the 190's crossing the scene as opposed to flying in line with the ship.
Nice to see some FW 190's from JG 5 portrayed.
At least there won't be much debate about the odd angles of the aircraft this time unlike in Knights Move & the 109's!!!
Wonder why thy did not get any Bismarck survivors on Breakout? |

what can one say but terrific work. I sure wish MG would think out of the box instead of what sort of look like RT retreads. Again, wonderful work, I wish I could paint like that. Ho Hum ......................... |

Breakout is not bad, ships are very good but the nose on the two Me-109's have a tapered look to me. The ships have a real sence of speed too.
Eismeer patrol isn't rattling by cage, just a bit over the short nose FW190. I'm more of a FW190D/TA152 fan myself.
If I had to pick one, it would be Breakout. It's a pity the Me-110's weren't a bit closer.

| Breakout for If I was going to buy one, AS has got a great composition, and has effected the water very nicely, he has improved on that front greatly. The second print for me is a return to his beginnings. Water is bland,a dn as JC says give me a FW190D |

| Breakout is very nicely done. There's a lot of depth and the sky is magnificent. Eismeer Patrol can give RT's Knight's Move a run for its money. It's a calming scene with some nice detail, and yes no odd angles for the 190s. If I were to choose one, it would be Breakout. I think we're off to a good start for the New Year. |

| Last summer Aces high held an exhibition of orignals for sale and I popped down for a nose - Breakout was there in the green room and from the door at fist glance thought it was a Taylor and was very impressed - A lady and gentleman informed us they had just purchased it and was waiting for the next ship painting to be completed before the release. However according to Aces high paperwork through the door on Friday both originals are still for sale - So i guess they changed thier minds - shame becuase as a spur of the moment decision would have probably picked up breakout at the time- Oh Hmm - the best he has done so far in my opinion - |

I agree! It will be interesting to see what AS comes up with in 2010. |

I'm disappointed in these 2 new prints
They look like poor mans versions of Channel Dash and Knights Move.
I was hoping that we would see something different and refreshing. |

DC,
You are right, MG will often try to capitalize on successful prints from the past by releasing similar images. No one could mistake the influence of Channel Dash in Breakout.
It would be nice if they could stretch the box just a little bit. They wouldn't even have to venture outside the box!
Here's what I mean. German capital ships & aircraft have been very successful for them. We've seen Scharnhorst, Gneisenau and Prinz Eugen in Channel Dash; Bismarck and Prinz Eugen in "Voyage Into Destiny"; Tirpitz in "Knight's Move".
How about the Graf Spee? That's a good looking ship that's very well known. It would be nice to see it too. Maybe RT1 will tackle it someday.
If you want to stretch the box a little further, how about a British battleship with aircraft escort. We haven't seen anything like that yet. Seems like a sure fire winner, and something a little different.
To further stretch the box, how about some Seafires for escort? Think about that for a minute. How many Spitfire prints have been done by RT1, Trudgian, RT2, Saunders, Coulson, Atack? A hundred, two hundred? Not one Seafire that I can think of! That's another fine example of just stretching the box a wee little bit.

Fuzzy,
I totally agree. MG will continue to re-issue the same recycled images as long as they can.
Graf Spee is unappreciated as well. Randall Wilson did Battle of the River Plate and Simon Atack issued a litho years ago. There is a lot of potential there!
The point though for them is what will stimulate collector? I happen to like the different stuff and the British Pacific Fleet / Burma / Indian Ocean is rare. British marked Avengers, Corsairs, Hellcats, etc. Would just a great image sell or do you need signatures? Battle of Britain and Luftwaffe will always be popular.
I know that Charles Thompson did a poster Seafire against the Sun for the Inaugural ASAA meeting. Phillip West did “No Room for Error” & Seafire profile by Michael Kinnear in the UK. That’s about it.
A scene with some Seafires engaging Zeros would be really different. Time for some fresh ideas!

I have to agree, I like both of these prints by AS, however would really like to see more 'fresh' ideas. Maybe the publishers should have a suggestion box for some ideas on prints, and the most popular ideas should be made into prints once or twice a year, that way everyone comes out a winner. Just an idea.
