I like Desert Victory very much, it’s not common for Robert to encroach onto the image area.

I did upgrade my Photobucket subscription paying for the upgrade, decided as this is used for a number of applications including eHanger it was worth the investment.

Robert Taylor – “Coming Home Together” twin Remarque of a Spit and 109, an early Spitfire print and one of RT’s best with the white cliffs

I really like this print Coming Home Together. I remember reading Bob Stanford Tuck was one of the early proponents of the cannon-armed Spitfire, while Douglas Bader opposed it, preferring to stick to his beloved eight .303 Brownings.

Nice remarques. What’s written next to each signature – is it “with best wishes”?

“Coming Home Together” really is a beauty of a print and one you don’t see very often.  Nice drawings on that one!

…and a recent remarque on an old print I’m guessing. RT’s remarques are so much better since the use of white paint to eliminate the colour difference between signature and handling areas. In the old days the 109’s tail fin would have been yellow. Nice one.

RT started to add “with best wishes” to his remarques a number of years ago, it is a nice touch and almost a signature on his current remarques. The “Coming Home Together” Remarque has an interesting story behind it, I wanted this double Remarque on “Dual of Eagles” the first aviation print of note by RT which I have some mint copies of. RT did not want to do it as the paper on this early print is very shiny and very difficult to draw on, so we settled on “Coming Home Together” it was completed a couple of years ago hence the white highlights.

A few months ago I found a remarqued copy of “Dual of Eagles” not in great condition with faded signatures but the only remarqued copy of this print that I have ever seen. Maybe this was a learning experience and RT decided not to do more due to the difficulty of drawing on this shiny paper.

That is an interesting story and thank you for sharing this little anecdote!

Its also interesting to see the differences in RT’s remarques from his early days to his recent works. The shinyness of the older paper is not apparent in the photo you posted. I guess you have to see it in the flesh to appreciate the difference.

I wonder how many official remarques were offered with the original release of Duel of Eagles in the 1980s? I remember in the 1990s, each print release had an edition of 25 remarques. Does your remarqued copy have an edition number? I wonder if it was an official remarque copy or the original owner got a normal edition specially remarqued afterward… think

I noticed that while Adolf Galland’s inked signature is still visible, Douglas Bader’s has all but disappeared from the print?

Simon,

Interesting story on Duel of Eagles.  I guess it never dawned on me that you don’t see remarques on that print.  I have seen a copy, and the paper is slick & shiny compared to normal print paper.  I guess it’s a real pain to draw on it.

Interesting to see how the magic marker signatures have faded over time.  Based on the photos, I can’t see any remnants of Bader’s signature.

Kurt

HI Kurt,

The signatures on this print fade very badly if exposed to light, it is very difficult to find good copies with no light exposure. The one below is as mint as you can find for the age of this print.
