Here is a pencil depiction of George Welch on December 7, 1941 as he shot down two Vals. Sometimes the aircraft has been portrayed with the squadron numerical insignia and sometimes it hasn't but I will put it in for this one. I plan on doing this piece in pastel.

The completed pastel. This medium really gives a toothy texture especially on  the Canson paper. Up close it's fairly rough but it comes together nicely at a distance.

You have a very unique look to your pieces, the Mossie was really good & so is this one

I cannot figure out if the Gray one is the under painting or a prelim drawing ?

What size is it?  there are some very fine bits of detail in there cool the more you look at it the more you realise just how difficult & time consuming it must be to use pastel, I have only used it twice, I couldn't stick the mess it made (Dust) frown

I don't suffer from insanity. I enjoy every minute of it.

Thanks Gollum!

The black & white is a smaller separate drawing to establish the tonal values for the colour piece. The final size of the black and white is 7.25" x 9.875" on white, toothed-surface drawing paper.

The colour piece is 12.75" x 17" centered on a sheet of 15.25" x 20" Canson Me-Teintes Pastel Paper which comes in varying tints, this one a light, greyish blue. The medium is oil pastel as opposed to chalk pastel.

The oil pastels are more waxy, and I use a fixative on the finished work as I would for chalk pastel. The way to get a bit of detail is to add fine bits with what is called an "artist stomp" which rubs the pigment into the paper. The stomps come in differing sizes with a cone shape to them, the broad part for larger area and the "pointy" tip for fine detailed areas. Coloured pencil can be used for very small details as well.

Wish I had a Pointy Tip laugh

I still want to see you do an underwater wreck, I came across a few really good very atmospheric pics that would suit your style down to the ground.

Something like this

I reckon you could sell them as well for two good reasons

1: your style

2: never seen any before (unique)

think about it

Gollum:

You asked for a pointy tip – I give you: http://www.stabilo.com/pages-c…..thello.php

I don't know if these are available on your side of the pond, but if they aren't, there should be something similar. I used them for the sky and clouds in a recent piece and was really pleased with the results.
