It’s been quite a few years, but it was time to paint the Red Baron again. I’ve done a huge number of RB paintings spanning his career since I started the series in 1995.

On the evening of April 20, 1918 Manfred von Richthofen, better known as “The Red Baron”, would bag two Sopwith Camels for his 79th and 80th kills.

The following day, Sunday, April 21, von Richthofen failed to return from his last mission. Shot down by Australian ground fire, he managed to crash-land his red bird before succumbing to his fatal wound. Baron Manfred von Richthofen was the all-time leading ace of the First Air War.

Thanks. No, this one was for sale. A collector made the decision to buy it this morning.

Awesome! Congratulations! twothumbsupbanana

Just as a matter of curiousity, how did the buyer know of this painting? Was it a personal contact, or through an ad, or via social media posting?
