I searched the forums and probably missed any discussion on this. No doubt well documented but my print at least, has a typo in the call-out of one of the B-17s’.

No change in value I’m sure, but just interesting.

I too am unclear as to what you are asking about. What is a “call-out”?

If it helps to clarify, please include a photo of your print here.

I’m manning the circulation desk at work now, when I go home for lunch I’ll write the exact info down. Briefly, across the bottom of the print is a series of call-outs identifying each AC in the print, (and some other info like the serial number, crew missions accrued, name of AC if known, etc.) I think the next to last one, moving left to right IDs’ that B-17 as “B-17B…”

I’ll be more exact after lunch.

bruce

It reads; B-17B-5 BO

             Serial number 42-31183

             Squadron Letter: J

             Aircraft name: Bad Penny

             Aircraft mission: 69

             Crew mission: 8

I think it should be B-17G B-5 BO…….its just the “G” thats missing. someone with a list of serial numbers should be able to tell for sure.

Anyway, I love the print, I have 3 Ferris prints; this one, Fortresses under fire bought when the Air & Space Museum opened in 1976 (?) and Big Brass Ones.

The one I wish I could get? The one in the Art of Keith Ferris book, the F-105 Wild Weasel machine gunning that SAM site with the last of its ordinance, the name of the print escapes me now.

Thanks for your time everyone, I’m new to the site and enjoy the back/forth and general information a great deal.

I’m sure you are right – it should be a ‘G’ instead of a ‘B’.  I haven’t seen this error mentioned before – sharp eye!

Yes, it should be a G.

I think the “G” just fell off somewhere…..so the “B-5 BO” (block 5 Boeing built?) just slide over into the vacant spot.

In a long past life, I was a typesetter, actually saw hot type in action, if anyone remembers that, and cut my teeth on cold type……

Hello, all. Another new-to-the-site member here.

This posting caught my eye since I have this same print framed and hanging – and I never noticed this typo. But indeed it is there. Funny how after years of enjoying viewing a piece of work one can find something like this!

Since there were no photos in this thread I thought I’d try my hand at posting some. Here’s photos of mine, and the mistake is clear as day… (forgiving the fuzzy resolution).

Moving some certs around today and came back across those I have for this piece. Astonishingly, the typo is carried on through both the “documentation” (cert) AND on the original sales flyer! Sorry the pic of that last one is fuzzy, but it states B-17B-5 BO as well. A miss on all accounts!
