ultra,

Here’s a pic of Harley’s “Rat Catcher” original painting. Harley loves the Tempest. It’s a shame we don’t see it painted more. Clostermann signed the painting as well. When Harley met Clostermann, he was deeply impressed by the man, and this painting is a special one because of that connection.

Here’s a picture of my Harley Copic painting. All I can say about my photo is that it’s not terrible. It’s OK. This painting is still waiting for me to figure out how to take a picture of it that gets the colors right.

Here’s something a little different. Two Luftwaffe F-4F’s of JG-71.

Harley said this painting is huge. He painted it in exchange for a ride in one of the F-4’s. A ride in an F-4 is an awesome thing, but given how cool this painting is, I’d say the Luftwaffe got the better end of that deal!

Here are some pics, coincidentally, of an eBay auction that just ended.

Someone just picked up a real gem here. A great rendition of an F-100. The background looks like Vietnam, but just a guess on my part. The painting strikes me as an older work. It appears to have collected a little dirt and grime over the years. With a careful cleaning, I’m sure it will return to its full glory. If I was more of a jet guy, I’d have been after this one!

Great thread Fuzzy. One of my favorites, which I have only seen once, is his “Gustavs over the Steppes”. I can’t find a decent image of it online. Hoping you have a copy or a good photo Kurt… 🙂

James,

I do have a decent photo of the “Gustavs Over The Steppes” print. After I get the originals up, I’ll post all the prints I have images of.

Here’s the other Copic original that happened to be on eBay recently. Again, this one needs a good cleaning and a new frame!

And a few months later, here is the F-4 painting cleaned, reframed, and as beautiful as ever:

That’s all the photos of original paintings I have. There may be a couple more later, and I’ll add those as they come in.

Next up are some of Harley’s paintings for the USAF art program. I pulled most of the images from the USAF art program website. Some of the pics are pretty good, but some are just plain bad. It seems a shame for the USAF art program website to post such terrible images on their site. These are the best I’ve got. If I run across better ones, I’ll replace them.

First a couple of F-86 Sabres from the Korean War. Unfortunately, both are bad images:

Here are some Vietnam images by Harley from the USAF Art Program. I believe Harley went to Vietnam as a guest of the Art Program in order to document the conflict.

Again, sorry for the poor images, but that is all that is available on the website. If you are familar with Harley’s work, you can extrapolate from these extremely low-res images and imagine what the actual works are like.

Some Air Force Art Program scenes from war in Iraq.

The first four images from the art program website are pretty good. Unfortunately, the F-16 image – which looks to be an outstanding painting – leaves much to be desired.

Harley has been to Iraq several times courtesy of the USAF Art Program in order to document USAF operations in those conflicts.

Some other modern aircraft scenes from the USAF Art Program. I hope they update their website someday with higher quality images.

“Farewell Old Friend” by Harley Copic (F-4E)

“Ohio Connection” by Harley Copic (A-7D & KC-135)

“Warthog Over Kosovo” by Harley Copic (A-10)

“New Kid in the Loch” by Harley Copic (F-15E)

Harley has had a fair number of backseat rides in USAF aircraft. I think one of those rides is chronicled in the painting above. Awesome! Love that warthog painting too.

Harley’s got a few more paintings in progress. If I get images, I’ll post them here over time.

I’ll start putting up some of Harley’s prints. James wanted a look at “Gustavs Over The Steppes”, so I’ll start there.

Edition of 400. Print size 20 1/2 X 28. Edition signed by Harley and Guenther Rall.

Another fine eastern front Me-109 print. Published way back in 1983. Print size is 24 X 18. Edition size 1000. The edition was signed by Harley and Erich Hartmann.

Very cool print! Has a different look and feel to it than most Hartmann prints. They’ve been sold out for a while, but you can still find them at prices that won’t kill you like a Robert Taylor Hartmann print. Worth a look if you want an excellent Erich Hartmann signed print on the wall. You can still get these from Aviation Autographs – brand new prints – for $375. Not too shabby!

I really like this one, and the Hartman signature is a bonus.

Thanks Fuzzy for adding a decent photo of “Gustavs Over The Steppes”. It’s been awhile since I have seen it; several years. Still as good as I remember.

After the Luftwaffe Aces open edition prints, it’s time to show the Mustang Aces series.

There are four of them – Gentile, Goodson, Preddy, Whisner.

I don’t have the Gentile print, but I did get a look at the Gentile original (and the Goodson & Whisner originals) at Harley’s place.

Harley Copic “Mustang Aces – Gentile” (original):

Another 4th Fighter Group Ace from the Mustang Aces series.

Harley Copic “Mustang Aces – Goodson” (original):

Harley Copic “Mustang Aces – Goodson” (print):

Most of these open edition prints were not signed, but mine is signed by Harley and Frank Speer, 4th FG pilot who flew “Turnip Termite”. Sadly, Frank passed recently. He used to come to the Reading, PA show every year, which is where I had the print signed.
