To Guss as his post was lost in the shuffle. –

Thanks! There’s lots of great Luft. collar tabs (and shoulder boards) out there to be had but about 87% of them are fakes.

When you get into the Waffen SS stuff about 99.9% of everything is fake. wacko

Well, in my original post I said how impressed I was by these collar tabs, and given the rarity of authentic pieces, now I’m impressed even more.  Great find buzz!

I’m finding Collar tabs to be almost addictive as Iron Crosses. Once a person weeds out the fakes and scams then its a matter of wanting the rusty or shiny or the moth-holed or the new/unissued.

I make fun of those with their noses buried in Farcebook 12 hrs/day but I’m almost as bad perusing militaria sites. duh

Here’s something I had to sign for so it kinda missed the mailbox.

I just picked up a Wootton WW1 print and was wondering what I could use to ‘tell a story.’ RFC wings so pre-April 1918. The goggles probably from the same era. They are some kind of split leather, glass lenses and some kind of cotton cord with whatever kind of buckle apparently long gone. Be they pilot goggles or motorcycle goggles or whatever, they have the ‘look’ I was looking for. Both items from the same estate sale in Kent, England.

I don’t think I’ve posted this one (or my WW1 EK2 paperwork).

Iron Cross 2nd Class award for a Gefreiten (Corporal) Strölin. Awarded on July 1st, 1941 Im Osten (in the east). This is literally a week after the start of Operation Barbarossa. Paperwork signed by General Gothard Heinrici, commander of the 43rd Army Corps. In late April of ’45, Heinrici thumbed his nose at Hitler by marching his troops north out of Berlin and lived to tell about it. And he was married to a Jewish woman.

Here’s a WW1 Iron Cross 2nd Class award for a Gefreiten who was a member of MG-Kompagnie, Reserve Infanterie-Regiment 103, 58th Royal Saxonian Infantry Division. This was awarded on October 15th, 1918 (less than a month before the end of the war) for action on August 26th.

I need to get on the German War Graves website and research these 2 soldiers.

Well crap, these last 2 posts should be in the Army section. Oh well. bootyshake

Thanks Guss! They are in excellent shape. other than a bit of age toning both could of been signed yesterday. The WW1 document is about 8.5 x 13″ and so going to frame the LW cross pictured as it has a long ribbon and it won’t get lost in the frame next to all that paper.

The WW2 document when folded is only an A2 in size and so I probably need an EK2 with a short ribbon. I have a hand-full of those so no problem finding the right cross. goodshow

Just waiting for a framing sale….

Slightly off-topic, but do you (and everyone else) think categorizing posts according to the 3 different armed forces is a bit restrictive? Perhaps one militaria section for any and all posts on militaria might suffice?

I guess if it were up to me, an ‘All Militaria collectibles’ section would probably suffice. There really isn’t a stampede of folks panting at the gate waiting to post in the various different sections and if one wanted to include everything there would be Marines and Coast Guard, etc. sections.

So yeah, probably a ‘one size fits all’ section. Can always do something different later if there’s a demand for it.
