Calling Members for Chat Session – Online Now

I’m testing the Chat feature now.

If you’re online and wish to help me test out this feature and just come in for a quick chat, please join me. You will see at the bottom right of your browser a little blue bar with the words “Click here to chat!”. Click on it and the chat dialog box will appear.

Just type in your message and press Enter and your words will be sent.

Hope to chat with some of you for the next hour or so.

If this works well, we can arrange for some chats on specific topics at prearranged times. :D

Site tweaks to speed, features – feedback please :)

Its a public holiday in Singapore today, and I put quite a bit of time aside to really dig into the site to find out what is affecting page loads, etc.

I’ve disabled a few plugins and it seems to make it load faster – what do you think?

I’ve also been looking at making this site more interactive from the community point of view. What do you think of the following features, will you use them if I introduce them?

  • Events – Plan, Organize and Promote Events
  • Live Chat – Chat with other members in a pop-up chat box, right on eHangar!

Please post your comments below. I’m not going to link this post to the forum as I’d like to get you members to try out the comments feature on this post.

Please help me out here by posting your thoughts, comments, feedback and suggestions here (click on the “Leave a comment” link at the top of this story, to comment).

New Features on eHangar.com

As promised with the upgrade to the site’s content management system, we are happy to introduce some new features to eHangar.com.

No doubt, sharp-eyed members will have already noticed some of these new features. They include an upgrade Membership block and a new Chat room.

The new Membership block offers more information on your login status in a more attractive and neat way, including your eHangar.com Avatar, if you have chosen one. [Read more...]

We're back online!

eHangar.com was closed for almost two days due to a technical change – a move to a new server and operating system. This was a necessary change in preparation for an upgrade of the site’s content management system in the very near future.

We hope you haven’t missed us too much ;) I noticed as soon as we came back online, two other names popped up in the members’ list, so we know some members did :)

Now, there may be some hiccups due from the changeover, so if you come across some feature that is not working like it did before, don’t fret, we’re working on it to bring it back up asap.

We will be upgrading various modules on the site, so members and visitors can look forward to even more exciting features on eHangar.com. [Read more...]

Is a Classifieds section useful to you? Opinions wanted!

Did you know we have a Classifieds section where you can post your own advertisements to sell part of all of your aviation art collection, or post a wants list if you are looking for that special print or prints?

Ok, we’re not quite eBay yet, in terms of traffic and “eyeballs”, but we have a very targeted audience of aviation art collectors and enthusiasts, as well as aviation artists, dealers, galleries and publishers.

We do have one advantage: posting your ad here is free – for now; to encourage greater participation and use of this site feature, we will not be charging posting fees. [Read more...]

60th Anniversary of Atomic bombing missions

Dawn, the World Forever Changed by William S. Phillips
This year 2005 marks the 60th Anniversary of the two Atomic bombing missions.

On 6th August 1945, the USAAF dropped the world’s first atomic bomb on the Japanese city of Hiroshima, devastating the entire city and killed about 80,000 people outright.

The second atomic bomb was dropped on Nagasaki three days later on Aug 9. This bomb killed more than 40,000 people.

These two bombs set in series a chain of events that most people believed hastened the end of war with Japan, and hence the end of World War II. [Read more...]

Links to Aviation Art societies

We have uploaded new links to websites of aviation art associations and societies.

These include the two main groups, the UK-based Guild of Aviation Artists and the US-based American Society of Aviation Artists, as well as a couple of regionally-based interest groups.

If you know of any more aviation art groups, please click on Add Links in the Web Links section to add them to help expand our database. [Read more...]

RSS News Feeds now available

Members and visitors can now subscribe to eHangar.com’s news articles on your MyYahoo and MyMSN pages.

If you visit a lot of websites to get your daily fix of news, did you know that you can get them on just one page? Using a newsfeed called RSS, which I understand stands for “Really Simple Syndication”, you can now view eHangar.com’s news headlines and those of other sites which produce these RSS feeds, without having to visit multiple sites. eHangar.com Members can also post News!

Hi, this is Ace. I am testing eHangar.com’s news submission feature by eHangar.com members.

All members have access to this feature, which allows us to post and share news of interest to our community.

This is a great feature, as not only the eHangar.com administrator a.k.a. eHangar need be the only one to post content on this News section on the homepage.

Of course, with great power comes great responsibility (quoting Uncle Ben, Peter Parker’s uncle, from the Spiderman movie) so we shouldn’t abuse this privilege by posting irrelevant content or self-serving advertisements ;) [Read more...]
